Eagle Grove baseball drops barn-burner to West Hancock, 3-2

The Eagle Grove Eagles baseball team returned to action on Wednesday, as they made the drive north to take on the West Hancock Eagles in Top of Iowa West action at West Hancock High School in Britt. Eagle Grove entered at 0-1, while West Hancock also entered at 0-1.

Eagle Grove started the game fast as they put up a pair of runs off a 2-run RBI single by Adrian Whipple in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. West Hancock wouldn’t get on the board until the 4th off a bases-loaded walk, as the home Eagles then tied the game on an RBI groundout in the 5th, and then took the lead on a bases loaded walk in the 6th. Eagle Grove was unable to mount a rally in the 7th, and would drop a 3-2 ballgame.

Adrian Whipple would go 1-for-3 with that 2-run RBI single, while Brett Ascherl pitched all 6 innings, allowing 3 runs (1 earned) on 8 hits and striking out 5, while walking 5 batters.

Eagle Grove baseball returns to action on Thursday, when they travel to Pocahontas to take on Pocahontas Area in non-conference action at 7:30 PM.
