
The Webster City Lynx baseball team returned to action on Tuesday, as they made the short trip east on Highway 20 to take on the St. Edmond Gaels in North Central Conference action at the Harlan Rogers Sports Complex in Fort Dodge.
Game 1 would see a scoreless first inning before the Lynx would put up 4 runs in the 2nd off RBI from Gordon Bargfrede, Matt Tesdahl and Alex Staley to take a 4-0 lead. Webster City would then put up 2 more runs in the 5th off an error and a passed ball, before Braylon Dyvig drove in a run off an RBI single in the 6th as the Lynx led 8-0. St. Edmond would try and mount a rally, scoring 3 runs in the 6th and 2 more in the 7th, but the Lynx were able to thwart the threat and hold on for an 8-5 victory.
Matt Tesdahl would go 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Alex Staley and Braylon Dyvig eached tallied 2 RBI on the day. Dyvig was the winning pitcher, going 5.1 innings, allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on 1 hit and striking out 11.
Game 2 would see the Lynx build their lead early once more, as Brady Asklund drove in a run on a sac fly in the 1st to give the Lynx a 1-0 lead. Webster City would then put up 2 runs in the 3rd off a 2-run RBI single from Carter Mickelson to put the Lynx up 3-0, before Mickelson and Matt Tesdahl each had RBI singles in the 4th to make the score 5-0. St. Edmond would put up 2 runs in the 5th, before Alex Staley would drive in runs on a 2-run RBI double to put Webster City up 7-3. The Lynx scored 2 more runs in the 6th off a passed ball and a Kaleb Hansen RBI groundout, before St. Edmond scratched a run across in the 7th to bring the game to a 9-3 final.
Carter Mickelson would go 3-for-3 with a double and 3 RBI, while Alex Staley was 2-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI. Junior Gavin Griffith would pick up the win, pitching 6.2 innings and allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on 2 hits and striking out 6.
Webster City baseball returns to action on Friday, when they host Newell-Fonda in non-conference action at Webster City High School, with first pitch at 7:30 PM on 99.1/1570 KZWC.
