Roland-Story softball drops season-opener to Grand View Christian, 8-4

The Roland-Story Norsemen softball team opened their 2025 season on Tuesday night, as they hosted the Grand View Christian Thunder at the Hennessy Diamonds in Roland in Heart of Iowa Conference action.

Grand View Christian would jump on top first with a sac fly in the 1st to take a 1-0 lead, but Roland-Story knotted things up in the bottom of the frame of a Lauren Crabbs RBI single to make it 1-1. GVC would plate 2 in the 2nd off an RBI single to make it 3-1, while the Norsemen plated a run in the 3rd off an error to make the score 3-2. The Thunder would score off a fielder’s choice in the 5th to make it 4-2, before Roland-Story got back within 1 off a Maddie Berggren RBI groundout. GVC then put together a 4-run top of the 6th to push their lead to 8-3, as the Norsemen put up a run in the bottom of the 6th, but could not muster the offense for the comeback and fell 8-4.

Catcher Peyton Jeter would go 2-for-3 with 2 singles, while Lauren Crabbs, Kate Berggren and Maddie Berggren all tallied RBI for the Norsemen. Miley Geise was charged with the loss, pitching 5.2 innings and allowing 8 runs (1 earned) on 8 hits and struck out 3.

Roland-Story softball returns to action on Thursday, when they travel to Eldora to take on South Hardin, with first pitch at 7 PM.
