History programs announced for Wilson Brewer Park’s Mulberrry Center Church announced.

During their meeting last Wednesday evening, the Wilson Brewer Park and Depot Foundation board members learned of the series of the history programs at Mulberry Center Church. Carolynn Miller said the first presentation is set for June 28th with Caedyn Huston presenting A Day in the Life of a World War 2 GI. The second program is by Betty Passick on July 19th with Gangster in our Midst:The Untold Story. American Dreamer: The Life and Times of Henry A. Wallace, a one-act play by Tom Milligan will be presented on August 16th.Rosie the Riveters of Iowa by Linda Besinger McCann will be the program on September 13th. Other programs include Unconditional Surrender: A Visit with Ulysses S. Grant, a one-act play by Peter Grady on September 27th. The last program will be on October 18th with Sandra Host presenting Iowa’s One-Room Schools. All of the programs will begin at 1:00 p.m. at Mulberry Center Church.

Foundation board secretary Tamiann Parrott introduced a model railroad project in the Depot basement. The project is in its beginning phase with more information to be presented at the June meeting. Parrott informed the board that this would provide something more interest to young people.

The board approved the plans to purchase a 2-sided 3 foot by 6 foot Digital LED sign for the park at a cost of approximately $600. Once the sign is received it is hoped the sign can be enclosed to be more in keeping with the historic looks of the park.

A proposal for a Little Free Library at Wilson Brewer Park to be managed by the Webster City Kiwanis Club approved by the board. The installation will begin soon at the park.

Plans for an authentic horsehoe pit set up near the Harmony Center School were discussed by member of the board.  This would have been an activity in pioneer days that would provide additional entertainment for families. Board secretary Kolleen Taylor said she will be in contact with Webster City’s Scouting America chapter to help design and build the horseshoe pit.

The work on the sidewalks will begin this week to the Mulberry Center Church and create the base for the bell, signs and for the Hamilton County sign. Underground electrical work is in the works. A power wash on the depot is set for June 16th.

Crews from API Roofing of Webster City submitted a low bid of$7,700 for roofing and sheeting work on the courthouse which is completed. The depot at the park still needs to have the Christmas lights removed before the power washing takes place. It was recommended all the bathrooms be updated with new fixtures. A recent grant was received to update the interior bathrooms.

The date of October 11th was set for a Fall Fest from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m.at Wilson Brewer Park with further information to be announced at a later date.
