A 68-year-old Mason City motorist died Tuesday afternoon in an accident at the 147 mile marker of Interstate 35 near Williams. The Iowa State Patrol reported a northbound 2019 model Ford Fiesta driven by Reed Peterson of Mason City crossed the center line,striking the rear trailer tires of a 2000 model Volvo semi operated by Serghei Gornostali of Bartlett,Illinois. After impact the Peterson was struck a second time by a Freightliner semi driven by a motorist from Louisville,Kentucky (identified as Funugo Nsanzinfura) with the car’s engine dislodged. Another vehicle ,a 2016 model GMC Yukon driven by Caleb Jacobsen of Dows then struck the Freightliner semi. Peterson was pronounced dead at the accident. The three drivers were treated for their injuries and later released. Tuesday’s accident remains under investigation.
