A Webster County jury will decide the fate of an Eagle Grove man charged with vehicular homicide in a November,2023 accident in northeastern Webster County. 39-year-old Logan Christensen is charged with vehicular homicide and serious injury by motor vehicle. Court documents say that Christensen ran a stop sign at the intersection of Union Avenue and 110th Street on November 22nd, 2023 which resulted in the death of 13-year-old Kyle Hilbert and serious injuries to the mother of Hilbert , Sara Sanga of Hardy. Sanga was operating a Toyota Camry northbound on Union Avenue in Webster County. Hilbert was sitting in the passenger seat as they made their way home in Hardy after a trip to Fort Dodge for a doctor’s appointment. Christensen was traveling westbound on 110th Street in a Ram pickup truck when he failed to stop at a stop sign, hitting Sanga’s Toyota in the front passenger area and pushing it into the ditch, where the vehicle struck a power pole. Christensen’s vehicle again hit the Sanga Toyota causing it to roll onto its hood where it came to rest. Hilbert was pronounced dead at the accident scene. Sanga was airlifted to a Des Moines hospital with a head injury, broken ankle and broken ribs. Christensen told law enforcement at the scene that he was driving the truck and stated that prior to getting behind the wheel he had consumed alcohol consisting of “two captains and cokes”. The blood test results for Christensen came back positive for cocaine and THC,which is an active ingredient in marijuana, and indicated a blood alcohol content of .041. A blood alcohol content of .08 is presumed intoxicated under Iowa law. Attorneys presented their closing arguments on Thursday afternoon. The case is now in the hands of the Webster County jury with deliberation set to begin this Friday morning.
