Webster City boys and girls track compete in 3A District Meet at Nevada

The Webster City Lynx boys and girls track teams returned to action on Thursday, as they competed in their Class 3A State Qualifying Meet at Nevada High School in Nevada. The Lynx were joined by the host Cubs, as well as Ballard, Boone, Carroll, Gilbert, Humboldt and North Polk.

Webster City’s boys would place 7th in the meet with 57 points, as their top placer was junior Justin Callahan, who placed 2nd in the 400m dash in a time of 51.30, and also placed 2nd in the 400m hurdles in a time of 56.05, qualifying for the state meet in both events. Jayden Weinzetl would place 3rd in the 200m dash in a time of 23.30, lining himself up for an outside shot of an at-large bid, while also placing 4th in a loaded-100m dash field in a time of 11.05, likely getting himself into the 100m dash at state. Danny Murillo would place 6th in the 800m run in a time of 2:07.50, as Zach Lahr placed 5th in the shot put with a throw of 45′ 3.25″. Beau Nohrenberg placed 6th in the shot put with a throw of 45′ 3″, while Jack Barner placed 7th in the 3200m run in a time of 11:22.37, and the 1600m run in a time of 5:00.39.

Webster City’s girls would place 7th with 53 points in the meet, as their top placer was junior Izzy Grossoehme, who placed 2nd in the 400m dash in a time of 59.41 to qualify for the state meet. Cloe Savitski would place 3rd in the 200m dash in a time of 27.31, while placing 4th in a loaded 100m dash field in a time of 12.83, giving herself a likely at-large bid to state. Adysen Poppen and Jakaela Cherry would place 3rd and 4th in the shot put, setting up for possible at-large bids as Poppen would throw 36′ 9.75″, as Cherry threw 36′ 4.75″. The Lynx 4×100 would place 4th in 52.25 with the team of Weinschenk-Grossoehme-Wright-Savitski, while the sprint medley was also 4th in a time of 1:52.92 with the team of Hartnett-Weinschenk-Savitski-Grossoehme.
