Clarion-Goldfield-Dows track and field sends 5 auto qualifiers from district meet at Grundy Center

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowboys and Cowgirls track teams returned to action on Thursday, as they competed in their Class 2A State Qualifying Meet at Grundy Center High School in Grundy Center. The Cowboys and Cowgirls were joined by the host Spartans, as well as Alburnett, Aplington-Parkersburg, Beckman Catholic, Columbus Catholic, Dike-New Hartford, East Marshall, Grand View Christian, Hudson, Vinton-Shellsburg and West Marshall.

Team scores were not available as of Friday morning, as the Cowgirls would auto qualify in 3 events, all 3 courtesy of MaKayla Beisel. Beisel would place 2nd in the high jump, clearing 5′ 3″, before placing 2nd in the 100m hurdles in a season-best time of 15.71. Beisel would then place 2nd in the 400m hurdles in a season-best time of 1:05.98. The Cowgirls 4×800 would place 7th in a time of 12:16.17 with the team of Charlson-Bobadilla-Hoesing-Perez, while also placing 7th in the shuttle hurdle in a time of 1:21.25 with the team of Schaffer-Engstrom-Tijull-Egland. The Cowgirls also finished 7th in the distance medley in a time of 5:07.63 with the team of Matul-Tijull-Hoesing-Charlson.

The Cowboys would send two athletes as auto-qualifiers to the state meet, as Chaz Lane placed 2nd in the high jump by clearing 5′ 10″. The other qualifier would be sophomore Huxley Lingenfelter in the discus, placing 2nd with a season-best throw of 148′ 3″. Charlie Campbell would place 5th in the 100m dash in a time of 11.91, while Chaz Lane placed 5th in the 110m High Hurdles in a time of 16.55. The shuttle hurdle team placed 6th in a time of 1:12.72 with the team of Lane-Rivera-Duncalf-Holmes, as the Cowboys 4×200 would place 6th in a time of 1:38.15 with the team of Boots-Lingenfelter-Lindaman-Campbell.
