(2A) #7 Webster City boys soccer claims outright NCC Championship over Humboldt, 2-0

The Webster City Lynx boys soccer team returned to action on Thursday, as they made the trip north and west to take on the Humboldt Wildcats in North Central Conference action at Mason Maach Field in Humboldt. Webster City entered at 13-0 and ranked #7 in 2A, while Humboldt entered at 6-7-1.

Despite wind gusts upwards of 50 miles per hour, Webster City went to work quick as Eddy Fuentes scored a goal off an Israel Torres assist in the 10th minute to put the Lynx up 1-0. Fuentes would then create his own offense, scoring a goal in the 23rd minute to put Webster City up 2-0 at halftime.

The 2nd half would become a defensive grudge match as Webster City struggled to convert opportunities, as Humboldt goalkeeper Karson Rubel made numerous 2nd half saves. However, Webster City’s backline continued their relentless play, as the Lynx secure a 2-0 shut out, as well as an outright North Central Conference title.

Webster City boys soccer returns to action on Friday, when they host the Fort Dodge Dodgers in a non-conference match at Lynx Field, beginning at 7 PM.
