Webster City boys dominate top 10 battle, Fuentes-Cruz surpasses 100 career goals against Aplington-Parkersburg

The Webster City Lynx boys soccer team returned to action on Tuesday afternoon, as they hosted the Falcons of Aplington-Parkersburg in a top 10, non-conference showdown at Lynx Field in Webster City. Webster City entered a perfect 12-0 and ranked #7 in Class 2A, while Aplington-Parkersburg entered at 9-2-1 and ranked #8 in Class 2A.

Webster City would not waste any time in flexing their muscles, as senior Eddy Fuentes-Cruz scored in the 8th minute to put the Lynx up 1-0, only to score just 2 minutes later to put the Lynx up 2-0. Fuentes-Cruz would then collect a first-half hat trick by scoring in the 35th minute, putting Webster City up 3-0, as sophomore Israel Torres added a goal just 2 minutes later to put the Lynx up 4-0 at halftime.

Senior Connor Peck started the 2nd half with a bang, scoring just a minute in to put the Lynx up 5-0. Aplington-Parkersburg would get on the board with a throw-in goal in the 55th minute to make it 5-1. However, history occurred in the 63rd minute as senior Eddy Fuentes-Cruz scored his 4th goal of the day, and officially reached the 100 career goal milestone, becoming to 5th Iowa High School athlete to ever score 100 career goals. Fuentes-Cruz joins Fairfield’s Solomon Constant, Fort Madison’s Braxton Williams, Marion’s Jackson Kirsch and Danville’s Kole Perkins as 100-goal scorers.

Israel Torres scored his 2nd goal of the afternoon soon thereafter to complete a 7-1 rout by Webster City in a top 10 battle. Webster City boys soccer returns to action on Thursday, when they take on Humboldt at Mason Maach Field at Humboldt High School at 5:30 PM.
