
The Roland-Story Norsemen and South Hamilton Hawks track teams returned to action on Thursday night, as they competed in the Heart of Iowa Conference Championships at West Marshall High School in State Center. The Norsemen and Hawks were joined by the host Trojans, as well as Grand View Christian, Greene County, Nevada, PCM, Perry and Saydel.
Roland-Story’s girls reigned at the top of the conference once again, winning their 4th conference title in the last 5 years, including their 3rd straight title. The Norsemen started the day with a win in the long jump from Adalyn Sporleder, setting a new HOIAC record with a jump of 17′ 7″, a record previously held by Roland-Story’s Elara Hopkins since 2002. Roland-Story would win the shuttle hurdle in a time of 1:07.97 with the quartet of Jondle-Lucas-Rechkemmer-Helgeson, as Kam Lande followed by winning the 100m dash in a new HOIAC-record time of 12.54 seconds. Lande followed up by winning the 400m dash in a time of 59.01 seconds, before the 4×200 claimed the conference crown in a time of 1:49.52 with the team of Sporleder-Petersen-Jondle-Scarrow. Taylor Rechkemmer would win the 100m hurdles in a time of 16.18, as Kam Lande followed by winning her 3rd individual title in the 200m dash in a time of 25.58. Roland-Story’s final win of the night came in the 4×100, winning in a time of 51.85 with the team of Helgeson-Petersen-Jondle-Kam Lande.
Roland-Story’s boys would place 3rd in the boys meet with 116.5 points, as they would claim a pair of winners. Corbin Lucchesi would win the conference title in the 3200m run in a time of 10:25.23, as the Norsemen then won the 4×200 in a time of 1:31.91 with the team of Carlson-Fosse-McIlrath-Crabbs. The Norsemen shuttle hurdle placed 2nd in a time of 1:03.00 with the team of Strum-Barber-Long-Crank, as the distance medley placed 2nd in a time of 3:56.19 with the team of Miskell-Nerem-Dahlsten-Willis. Jayden Strum would place 2nd in the 110m high hurdles in a time of 15.60, as well as the 400m hurdles in a time of 57.45, and Evan Voga placed 2nd in the 800m run in a time of 2:03.78.
South Hamilton’s boys would place 6th with 65 points, and came away with a number of 2nd-place finishes. The Hawks placed 2nd in the sprint medley in a time of 1:34.03 with the team of Severseike-Young-Twedt-Hodnefield, as the 4×200 also placed 2nd in a time of 1:31.93 with the team of Severseike-Young-Twedt-Hodnefield. Kolby Hodnefield would place 2nd in the 200m dash in a time of 21.94, as Braden Young placed 4th in the long jump in with a mark of 20′ 6″.
South Hamilton’s girls would place 6th with 63 points, as their top placers were sophomore Tessa Skartvedt and junior Isabel Swenson. Skartvedt placed 2nd in the discus with a throw of 110′ 3″, as Isabel Swenson placed 2nd in the high jump by clearing 5′ 1″. The Hawks would place 3rd in the 4×200 in a time of 1:52.96 with the team of Flaugh-Van De Pol-Scheller-Doolittle, as the 4×100 was also 3rd in a time of 53.72 with the team of Flaugh-Van De Pol-Lammers-Doolittle. Stella Martensen also placed 3rd in the high jump by clearing 4′ 10″.
Roland-Story track returns to action on Thursday, when they compete in their Class 2A State Qualifying Meet at Ogden, beginning at 4:30 PM. South Hamilton track returns to action on Thursday, when they compete in their Class 1A State Qualifying Meet at Madrid, beginning at 4:30 PM.
