The Eagle Grove Eagles track teams returned to action on Thursday, as they made the drive into Hancock County to compete in the annual Top of Iowa West Conference Championships at Sanger Field in Britt. The Eagles were joined by the hosts in West Hancock, as well as Belmond-Klemme, Bishop Garrigan, Forest City, Garner-Hayfield-Ventura, Lake Mills, North Iowa and North Union.
Eagle Grove’s girls would place 7th with 43 points, as their top placer was senior Addy Jeske, who placed 2nd in the long jump with a mark of 17′ 5.25″. The Eagles 4×400 would place 3rd in a season-best time of 4:24.61 with the team of M. Anderson-Lenning-Jeske-Edwards, while Myka Anderson finished 4th in the 400m hurdles in a time of 1:15.74. Anderson also finished 5th in the 100m hurdles, while Taytum Edwards finished 5th in the 200m dash in a season-best time of 27.33. The Eagles 4×100 also set a new season-best, placing 5th in a time of 52.67 with the team of Jeske-Morgan-Lenning-Edwards, as the 4×200 also set a new season-best in a time of 1:52.73 with the the same team of Jeske-Morgan-Lenning-Edwards.
Eagle Grove’s boys would also place 7th with 48 points, as their top placers were juniors Leelan Spencer and senior Josh Miller. Spencer placed 3rd in the 100m dash in a time of 11.69, while Miller placed 3rd in the high jump by clearing 5′ 11″. Miller also placed 4th in the long jump with a mark of 19′ 5.75″, while Syrus Willard placed 4th in the high jump by clearing 5′ 11″. The Eagles 4×100 placed 4th in a season-best time of 46.37 with the team of Thacker-Heaton-Willard-Spencer, as the 4×200 placed 5th in a season-best time of 1:37.21 with the team of Heaton-Nielsen-Miller-Thacker. The distance medley also set a season-best, placing 5th in a time of 3:59.64 with the team of Gonzalez-Nielsen-Z. Castro-A. Castro.
