(2A) #7 Webster City boys soccer holds off Wright County, 4-2

The Webster City Lynx boys soccer team returned to action on Thursday night, as they made the drive north on Highway 69 to take on the Wright County Broncos at Belmond-Klemme High School in Belmond. Webster City entered at 10-0 and ranked #7 in Class 2A, while Wright County entered at 3-7-2.

Webster City got off to a quick start, as senior Eddy Fuentes scored goals in the 10th minute and 16th minute to give the 7th-ranked Lynx a quick 2-0 lead. Wright County answered back with a free kick goal from sophomore Santiago De Leon Juarez in the 23rd minute to cut the score to 2-1, but Webster City sophomore Israel Torres scored in the 36th minute to make the score 3-1. Wright County got back within 1 before halftime, as De Leon Juarez drew a penalty kick and converted in the 39th minute to make the score 3-2 at the half.

The 2nd half would be a defensive chess match, with the Broncos stifling the explosive Webster City offense. However, the Lynx broke through in the 68th minute with Israel Torres 2nd goal of the day to give cushion for a 4-2 lead, which would become the final score.

David Villelas, Fernando Rubi-Antunez, Francisco Ramirez-Carmona and Abisai Ramirez-Carmona all recorded assists for the Lynx in the win, while Edwin Nolasco Ramos added a pair of saves. Wright County stats were not available as of Friday morning.

Webster City boys soccer returns to action on Monday, when they host Iowa Falls-Alden at Lynx Field, beginning at 5:30 PM. Wright County returns to action on May 16th, when they travel to Clear Lake to take on the Lions at 5:30 PM.
