Eagle Grove football blown out in home opener against Southeast Valley, 64-0

The Eagle Grove Eagles football team returned to action on Friday night, as they opened their 2024 home slate by facing the Southeast Valley Jaguars in non-district action at Gene Hinrichsen Field in Eagle Grove. Eagle Grove entered at 0-1, while Southeast Valley entered at 0-1.

Eagle Grove was forced to punt on its first drive of the game, as Southeast Valley took their 2nd play for a touchdown as Brady Hanson broke off a 72-yard touchdown run to put the Jags up 8-0 after the 2-point conversion. The Eagles were forced to punt and Southeast Valley scored on the next play as Brady Hanson broke off a 65-yard touchdown run to make it 16-0. Eagle Grove would put together a long drive after the Jags second score, but a Brett Ascherl pass to the endzone was intercepted off a deflection to give Southeast Valley the ball back. The Jaguars would finish off the drive with a Cale Vansickle sneak to make it 24-0 Jaguars. Following an Eagle Grove turnover, Southeast Valley would score once more on Brady Hanson’s 3rd touchdown of the half from 6 yards out to make it 32-0 Southeast Valley. The Jags would score one more touchdown before half on a Vansickel 16-yard pass to Gauge Jones to make the halftime score 40-0.

The 2nd half would see Southeast Valley pick up where they left off as Cale Vansickel scrambled 56 yards for a touchdown to put the Jags up 46-0 after the failed 2-point conversion. Following an Eagle Grove fumble on the ensuing drive, the Jaguars went back to the air as Cale Vansickle found Gauge Jones from 27 yards out to make it 52-0. Southeast Valley would score 2 more garbage time touchdowns to cap off a 64-0 shutout win.

Trenton Robinson would have a team high 54 yards on the ground on Friday, while Brett Ascherl finished with 19 yards rushing.

Eagle Grove returns to action on Friday, when they host Forest City in their non-district finale at Gene Hinrichsen Field at 7 PM.
