The Iowa State Patrol investigated an accident at 3287 Queens Avenue in Jewell shortly before 1:00 this (Saturday) morning that injured a Colo man. Reported a 2023 model Can Am Maverick operated by 25-year-old Ross W. Barker of Jewell was traveling northbound on Queens Avenue when the vehicle swerved and went into the west ditch where it overturned. A passenger in the Maverick, identified as 24-year-old Cody D. Haugen of Colo,Iowa sustained life threatening injuries in the accident. Haugen was transported to Iowa Methodist Medical Hospital in Des Moines by Life Flight helicopter for treatment of injuries in the accident early this (Saturday) morning. The crash remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol with assistance by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office and Jewell EMS.
