Webster City wrestling sweeps tri-dual with Nashua-Plainfield and Forest City

The Webster City Lynx wrestling team returned to action on Thursday night, as they hosted a non-conference tri-dual for senior night, by taking on the Huskies of Nashua-Plainfield and the Indians of Forest City from the Top of Iowa Conference.

Webster City started their night with a bang, by taking on a Nashua-Plainfield team that was ranked #5 in the Class 1A dual team rankings, as Landon Griffin got the night started with a pin at 285, followed by Angel Ramirez losing via pin at 106. Linden Phetxoumphone faced a sturdy test in the #4 113-pounder in Class 1A with Nic Brase, but Phetxoumphone would control the match for a 9-2 decision. Ridge Berninghaus would be pinned by (1A) #1 Jayden Rinken at 120, before the Lynx reeled off 3 straight wins with a Carson Doolittle pin, a Dawson Bertran decision and Gavin Wynkoop pin. Blake Berninghaus would lose via tech fall at 144, before Tristan Mason won a 6-4 decision at 150. Isaac Firsching would fall at 165 via pin, putting N-P ahead 29-27, but Webster City would seal the upset with pins from Luke Estlund and Carson Bertran at 175 and 190 to cap a 35-30 win.

The Lynx would then move on to dominate Forest City by a final of 55-18. Webster City would pick up pins from Linden Phetxoumphone (113), Carson Doolittle (126), Dawson Bertran (132), Isaac Firsching (165), Luke Estlund (175) and Carson Bertran (190). Gavin Wynkoop (138) would win an 8-6 decision, Tristan Mason (150) would win a 10-2 major decision, Eli Estlund (215) would win a 4-3 decision and Landon Griffin (285) would win an 11-4 decision.

Webster City wrestling returns to action on Saturday, when they compete in the Norsemen Dual Tournament at Roland-Story High School.
