Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, Roland-Story wrestling compete in Clear Lake quad

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowboys and Roland-Story Norsemen wrestling teams returned to action on Thursday night, as they made the trip into Cerro Gordo County to take on the Clear Lake Lions and Humboldt Wildcats in quad dual action at Clear Lake High School.

CGD started the night off against their Highway 3 rivals in the Humboldt Wildcats, as Humboldt picked up a pin from Gaige Allen at 190, before Mason Allen and Ashtin Willms picked up falls at 215 and 285 to give Clarion a 12-6 lead. It would be the only lead the Cowboys had in the match, as Humboldt reeled off wins in 10 of the final 11 matches to take a 59-18 win. Ryan Hartwig picked up the lone Cowboy win in that frame with a pin at 120.

Roland-Story would open with Clear Lake, as the Lions won the first two matches via fall, before Aaron Peyton won a 6-0 decision over Max Orchard. Roland-Story would win 4 of the next 5 bouts, with falls from Caiden Latch (113), Blake Loof (126), a decision from Noah Potter (120) and a Kade Blume (132) forfeit to go up 21-18. Clear Lake then reeled off 3 pins and a major decision to seal the dual up. Logan Powers and Hesston Johnson ended the dual with back-to-back pins to make the final 40-36 Clear Lake.

CGD would take on the Lions next, beginning at 215 as Ashtin Willms pinned Max Orchard, then followed by a Jake Trenary pin and a John Amos decision to put Clear Lake up 9-6. CGD would then pick up back-to-back pins from Lucas Cayler and Ryan Hartwig to take an 18-6 lead, before Clear Lake reeled off 4 straight wins with a Tyler LeFevre fall, a Carter Perry decision, a Noah Potter sudden victory and an Aiden Hipper forfeit win to take a 24-18 win. Cooper Nosbush would pick up a big win at 150 in a 6-0 decision, before Christian Dunning pinned Jaxon Engstrom to put Clear Lake ahead 33-21. CGD would reel off three straight wins with a Selvin Gonzalez sudden victory, a Caleb Seaba pin and a Mason Allen 10-7 decision to bring the score to 33-33 and send the decision to criteria. Clear Lake would win off the 6th criteria, as Clear Lake had zero forfeits to CGD’s 1 forfeit.

Roland-Story followed the Clear Lake dual against Humboldt, as Gaige Allen won a 3-0 decision over Jaxson Kadolph at 215, before Aaron Peyton pinned Jack Guy late in the 3rd period at 285. Sam Knight pinned Konnor Blume at 106, before Caiden Latch won a 4-3 decision over Aden Prenger to make the score 9-9. Humboldt would then reel off 7 of the next 8 matches to go up 48-13, the lone Norsemen win coming from a Kade Blume major decision. Hesston Johnson would pick up a pin over Cael Donahe of Humboldt to seal the 54-19 final for the Wildcats.

CGD and Roland-Story would end the night facing off with one another, which started with an Aaron Peyton pin over Jaxun Pohlman. Lucas Ennis responded at 106, winning a sudden victory of Konnor Blume, but Ciaden Latch would respond by pinning Lucas Cayler to put the Norsemen up 12-3. The Cowboys would follow by winning 5 of the next 6 bouts with 5 falls to take a 33-17 lead, as Kade Blume won a tech fall (16-1) at 132. Roland-Story then picked up 3 straight wins with pins from Cooper Triggs and Hesston Johnson and a Logan Powers major decision, before CGD sealed the dual with back-to-back pins from Mason Allen and Ashtin Willms to win 45-33.

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows returns to action on Saturday, when they compete in the Farr Jebens Invitational at Maquoketa Valley High School in Delhi, while Roland-Story returns to action on Thursday, when they travel to Perry for a Heart of Iowa Conference dual against the Bluejays.
