Webster City, Clarion-Goldfield-Dows wrestling compete in Hampton tri-dual

The Webster City Lynx and Clarion-Goldfield-Dows wrestling teams made the trip east on Thursday night, to compete in a North Central Conference tri-dual at Hampton-Dumont-CAL High School in Hampton, taking on the host Bulldogs in the meet.

Webster City and CGD faced off with one another to start the night, with Linden Phetxoumphone opening the night with a fall over Brandon Stein at 113 lbs less than 30 seconds into the match. The Lynx would get 4 more wins that followed, with pins from Brayden Burtnett, Carson Doolittle and Gavin Wynkoop, as well as an Adison Scott 4-3 decision over Abram Wessels at 138 lbs. CGD would get back-to-back pins from Jaxen Engstrom and Mason Warnke at 144 and 150, before Tristan Mason won a 2-0 decision over Charlie Campbell at 157. Caleb Seaba would get a major decision over Isaac Firsching at 165, before Luke Estlund picked up a first period pin at 175 for Webster City. CGD would win 3 of the last 4 matches with Mason Allen, Ashtin Willms and Lucas Ennis picking up pins, but Landon Griffin picking up a pin at 285 lbs gave Webster City the cushion for a 42-34 win.

The Lynx followed up with their dual against 9th-ranked Hampton-Dumont-CAL, which saw the Lynx lose 6 of the first 7 matches, the lone win being a Carson Doolittle pin of Jaymes Stevens at 126 lbs, as the Lynx fell behind 36-6. Isaac Firsching and Luke Estlund picked up pins to put Webster City back into the thick of things at 36-18, but HD-CAL reeled off back-to-back pins and a decision to clinch the dual by a score of 50-30 after forfeits at 106 and 113.

The night ended with CGD getting their crack at HD-CAL, which saw Ryan Hartwig pin at 126, before HD-CAL ripped off 6 wins in a row with 3 pins, a tech fall and 2 major decisions to take a 31-6 lead. Caleb Seaba picked up his 2nd pin of the night at 175 lbs, before Mason Allen gave a scare to #6 Cael Burmester at 190 lbs, but Burmester held on for a 3-2 decision. Ashtin Willms picked up a pin at 215, before the Bulldogs and Cowboys traded forfeit wins at 285 and 106, before Jayson Stevens and Cooper Bird picked up pins at 113 and 120 to round out the night and give HD-CAL a 52-24 win.

Webster City wrestling returns to action on Saturday, when they compete in the Grinnell Tiger duals in Grinnell, Clarion-Goldfield-Dows returns to action on Saturday, when they compete in Keith Vry Invitational at Aplington-Parkersburg.
