Eagle Grove wrestling goes 2-1 in Top of Iowa quad at Nashua-Plainfield

The Eagle Grove Eagles wrestling team returned to action on Thursday night, as they made the trip east to Nashua to compete in a Top of Iowa Conference quad dual against Nashua-Plainfield, Northwood-Kensett and West Fork.

Eagle Grove started the night against the hosts in Nashua-Plainfield and the Huskies started off with winning 5 of the first 6 weights beginning at 215 with 3 forfeits and 2 pins, as Jesus Baez scored the Eagles only win that time frame with a pin over Isaac Jones at 285. The Huskies led 30-6 before Eagle Grove picked up 3 out of 4 matches with a Cooper Thacker pin, a Connor Christopher sudden-victory and a Hayden Schafer pin to make the score 36-21. Nashua-Plainfield would pick up 3 forfeits in the final 4 matches to clinch a 54-24 win.

The Eagles moved on to Northwood-Kensett, where they’d take 2 of the first 3 matches with a Reece Demuth forfeit win and a Jesus Baez pin at 285, before back-to-back double forfeits at 106 and 113. Eagle Grove then won the next 7 bouts, with 4 forfeits, 2 pins and a decision to take a 51-6 lead, before trading forfeits at 165 and 175 as Eagle Grove clinched a 57-12 dual win.

Eagle Grove finished the night with West Fork, where they won their first 5 matches via forfeit, with double forfeits at 215, 106 and 113, before Cooper Thacker picked up a pin over Brooks Jones at 132. Leelan Spencer followed up with a forfeit win at 138, as Connor Christopher and Hayden Schafer picked up back-to-back wins via fall at 144 and 150. The Eagles and Warhawks trade forfeits at the last two weights as Eagle Grove took home a 60-6 win.

Eagle Grove wrestling returns to action on Saturday, when they compete in the Bob Roethler Invitational at Emmetsburg High School.
