Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Volleyball goes 4-1 in home tournament

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Volleyball team opened their 2023 season on Saturday morning, as they welcomed in teams for their annual CGD Volleyball Tournment. The Cowgirls were joined by South Hamilton, Eagle Grove, Clear Lake, Manson-Northwest Webster, Estherville-Lincoln Central and North Butler.

The Cowgirls started their morning off with a 2-0 (19-21, 17-21) loss to Estherville-Lincoln Central. Claire Kirstein and Sydney Friesleben each had 3 kills for the Cowgirls, while Indy Johnson finished with 7 assists and an ace. CGD followed that up with a quick sweep of Eagle Grove, 2-0 (21-9, 21-13), Sydney Friesleben tallied an eye-popping 20 assists, as well as 2 blocks. CGD would then move on to North Butler, which they would sweep 2-0 (21-10, 21-15). Friesleben would follow up with 19 more assists, while Elliot Ennis finished with a team-high 3 blocks.

CGD would end their day with back-to-back matchups with South Hamilton, as the Cowgirls took the first match 2-1 (21-12, 16-21, 15-10). Blaire Askelsen and Elliot Ennis each finished with 3 kills, while Ennis finished with 5 blocks as well. The Cowgirls would take the second match by the final of 2-0 (21-12, 21-16), Claire Kirstein and Sydney Friesleben each finished with 4 kills, while Frieselben added 3 blocks, as Indy Johnson tallied 8 assists.

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows starts their season 4-1, and will return to action on Thursday when they open North Central Conference play on the road against Hampton-Dumont-CAL.
