Hamilton County sees a slight increase in July unemployment.

The Iowa Workforce Development office reported Tuesday morning that Hamilton County’s unemployment rate for July went up slightly to 2.9 percent. In June,the unemployment rate for Hamilton County was at 2.8 percent. It was also the same rate as in June,2022. There were 6,930 people employed in jobs across Hamilton County during July with 210 people unemployed. The unemployment rates for surrounding counties in July included Boone County at 2.8 percent, Franklin County at 2.9 percent, Hardin County at 3.1 percent, Webster County at 3.6 percent and both Story and Wright Counties tied at 2.7 percent. The unemployment rate for Iowa for July,2023 remained steady at 2.7 percent. There were 2,700 new jobs created in the state for the past month.
