Webster City baseball and softball turn up winners on Thursday

The Webster City Lynx baseball and softball teams returned to action on Thursday night, as Lynx baseball traveled to Pocahontas to take on Pocahontas Area, while Lynx softball hosted Iowa Falls-Alden in North Central Conference action.

In Pocahontas, the Lynx fell behind 1-0 after 2 innings, before a 5-run top of the 3rd put Webster City on top 5-1. The Indians would battle back to tie the game at 5-5 in the 5th inning, before the Lynx put up two runs in the top of the 6th to take a 7-5 lead, and hold on for the 7-5 win. Josh Stansfield and Jaxon Griffith each accounted for 2 RBI on the night, as Trevyn Lyons was the winning pitcher of record, pitching 4 innings of relief, allowing 2 runs off 2 hits and striking out 4 batters.

In Webster City, it was a similar story early as Iowa Falls-Alden jumped on top of the Lynx 1-0 after the first inning. However, the 2nd inning saw Webster City open the flood gates, and paired with costly IF-A errors, the Lynx put up 5 runs in 2nd, 4 runs in the 3rd and 3 runs in the 4th to take a commanding 12-2 lead, and kept the 10-run lead to win 12-2 in 5 innings. Delainey Bargfrede pitched all 5 innings, allowing 2 runs (1 earned) off 3 hits and striking out 7.

Webster City baseball returns to action on Friday night as they host Iowa Falls-Alden in North Central Conference action. Webster City softball returns to action on Friday night with a non-conference showdown with Carlisle.
