South Hamilton football releases all-district honorees

South Hamilton football released their all-district honorees on Sunday night at the team’s end-of-season banquet. The Hawks, champions of Class 1A, District 2, had many athletes named to the two all-district teams and honorable mentions.

First-Team

Senior running back Landen Skartvedt was named the district’s Offensive MVP and a 1st-team running back, after accumulating 763 yards on the ground with 10 touchdowns, in just 6 games, after missing the non-district slate with an injury. Sophomore Nick Severseike was also named a 1st-team running back selection, after rushing for a team-high 765 yards and 10 touchdowns. The offensive line was littered with Hawks as well, as senior Carter Balvanz and juniors Owen Duns and Kaden Schwandt were named to the first-team unit.

Defensively, Owen Renaud was chosen on the first-team defensive line, after leading the team in sacks (7) and tackles for loss (15). Junior Noah Gunderson was named a first-team linebacker, as he had a team-high 54.5 tackles, with 5.5 tackles for loss, 2 fumble recoveries and 3 interceptions. At defensive back, senior Teagan Trask and junior Landon Gruefe were first-team selections, as Trask led the team with 4 interceptions, while Gruefe tallied 3 interceptions.

Second-Team

Junior quarterback Tjerdan Johnson headlined the second-team for South Hamilton, as he threw for over 250 yards and ran for 365 more yards in 2022. On the offensive line, senior Aiden Johnson and junior Graham Peters were the selections for the Hawks, while sophomore Brayden Young was named the second-team kicker.

Defensively, senior Ernie Taylor was selected on the defensive line, after tallying 17.5 tackles, 2 sacks and 2.5 tackles for loss. At linebacker, senior Jack Moline and Blake Harris made up two of the four choices, as Moline picked up 11 tackles and 3 tackles for loss, while Harris was 2nd on the team in tackles with 28.

Junior running back Preston Van De Pol received the Golden Apple honor, given to injured all-district players, while junior Carter Stolee and freshman Kolby Hodnefield were named all-district honorable mention.

Academic All-District

South Hamilton led all of 1A, District 2 in academic all-district selections with 16. Seniors included Carter BalvanzJack MolineCole SeverseikeLanden SkartvedtTeagan Trask, and Eddie Wirth.
