Clarion-Goldfield-Dows blows past Southeast Valley, 13-3

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows baseball team returned to action on Tuesday night, as they opened their home slate by welcoming the Jaguars of Southeast Valley to Hanson Park in Clarion. The Jaguars entered 0-1 following a loss to Eagle Grove on Monday, while CGD defeated North Iowa 10-0 in Buffalo Center.

It wasn’t until the 2nd inning that the Cowboys would get on the scoreboard with a Nevan Foss RBI double to make it a 1-0 ballgame. Foss would later score on a passed ball to make it 2-0 CGD. The Jaguars got the 2 runs back in the 3rd on a Kolson Kruse RBI single, and a Justin Loseke sacrifice bunt to knot the score at 2-2. CGD would again score in the 3rd, with Nevan Foss and Thane Jackson drawing  bases loaded walks to make it 5-3.

The Jaguars would scratch a run across from Jared Cloud on a wild pitch in the top of the 4th, but CGD would take command from there. Preston Gardner led off the bottom of the 4th with a double and would score on a wild pitch. Mason Allen would then follow it up with his first home run of the year to make it 6-3. Nevan Foss would then bring 2 runs home on an RBI single, before scoring on a balk to make 9-3. The 5th inning was more of the same, as Preston Gardner led off the inning with a triple, and later scored on an error. Carson Nesheim would later draw a bases-loaded walk, as Nevan Foss brought in a run on a fielders choice. Thane Jackson would then reach first on an error, allowing the final run to score in a 13-3 win in 5 innings.

Porter Chase was the winning pitcher for CGD, while Zack Miller was the losing pitcher for Southeast Valley. CGD returns to action on Wednesday night, when they host South Hardin at Hanson Park in Clarion with first pitch at 7:30 PM.
