South Hamilton throwers have record setting weekend

While many area track meets were canceled throughout the week, last week, Saturday presented another day of large track meets throughout the state. South Hamilton sent star throwers Austin Busch and Mackenzy Grady to the Eastern Iowa Track and Field Festival, hosted at Iowa City West High School.

Austin Busch kicked off the day for South Hamilton in the shot put, winning the event with a best-throw of 59′ 1.5″. Busch would then finish 3rd in the discus with a toss of 170′ 8″, after breaking his own school record on Friday night at Indianola, with a throw of 177′ 7″. Indianola’s Walker Whalen won the discus on Saturday with a throw of 202′ 10″, the 3rd-best throw in the country this season at the high school level, and 4th on the all-time best discus throws in the state of Iowa.

Mackenzy Grady then took to the discus ring, where she won the girls discus event with a throw of 124′ 7″, a new South Hamilton school record. The throw gave her the 11th best discus throw in the state all classes, just a mere two inches behind CAM’s Mallory Behnken and Pekin’s Kerrigan Pope.

South Hamilton’s track teams are slated to return to action tomorrow at the Bomber Co-Ed Relays at Ballard Middle School.
