Eagle Grove basketball swept by Bishop Garrigan

Eagle Grove’s basketball teams hit the road on Friday night, to face off with the Golden Bears of Algona Bishop Garrigan in Algona. The Bishop Garrigan girls entered with a 13-3 record and ranked #2 in Class 1A, while the Bishop Garrigan boys entered with a 3-11 record.

Bishop Garrigan’s girls dominated from the word “go”, as they led Eagle Grove 22-4 after one, and extended that lead to 41-6 at halftime. Bishop Garrigan rode their talented squad through the 2nd half, en route to a 73-12 win over the Eagles. Consensus Top-100 recruit Audi Crooks finished with 20 points, while Molly Joyce also finished with 14 for Garrigan.

The Eagle Grove boys followed, looking to build off their 74-52 win over Belmond-Klemme on Tuesday. However, Bishop Garrigan had different ideas, as the Golden Bears held a 15-8 lead after one, before extending it 33-23 at halftime. The Eagles were within striking distance, but couldn’t consistently match the Golden Bears scoring in the 2nd half, falling 69-47. Jacob Leerar led Garrigan with 18 points, while Drake Canavan finished with 13 for Eagle Grove.

The Eagles return to action on Tuesday, when they host Lake Mills at Eagle Grove Elementary.
