Webster City and Clarion-Goldfield-Dows wrestling to compete in NCC Tournament

Webster City and Clarion-Goldfield-Dows wrestling squads, along with the rest of the North Central Conference, will make the trek to Fort Dodge on Saturday to compete in the North Central Conference Tournament at St. Edmond’s High School. Teams competing include the Lynx, Cowboys, host Gaels, Algona, Hampton-Dumont-CAL, Clear Lake, Humboldt and Iowa Falls-Alden.

The top contenders for the Lynx will include Cam Phetxoumphone at 120, as the senior looks to become the 16th, 4-time champion in NCC history. Carson Doolittle will look to go for his 2nd consecutive conference title at 113, after winning the title at 106 as a freshman. CJ Hisler is looking for his 2nd straight conference title after winning at 182 in 2021, and finishing runner-up at 170 as a freshman in 2020. Jaxon Cherry has become “the new kid on the block” as the sophomore continues to rise through the ranks at 220 and is in line to pick up the 1-seed at 220 in the conference tournament.

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows enters with a couple of wrestlers that have championship aspirations as well. Garrett Seaba will be the odds on favorite to capture his 3rd straight conference title at 160, denied a chance at a 4-peat as a freshman by Webster City’s Drake Doolittle. Junior Mack Seaba is also looking to be a player at 170 pounds, while youngest brother Caleb Seaba appears to be a darkhorse for the conference crown at 132. Daniel Chavez is among the top contenders for the NCC crown at 285 as well.

The NCC Tournament gets under way at 10 AM on Saturday morning.
