Eagle Grove wrestling sweeps Newman Catholic quadrangular

Eagle Grove’s wrestling squad made one last trip north before winter break on Tuesday night, as they competed in a quadrangular at Mason City Newman. Teams competing included the host Knights, North Butler-Clarksville and Saint Ansgar.

The Eagles opened the night with a 37-27 win over the hosts in Newman Catholic. The dual was highlighted by a major decision from Trenton Sorensen and a fall by Dustin Dawson. However, Jack Mendoza, the Eagles lone ranked wrestler at 195, was upset by Newman Catholic’s Holden Hensley.

Eagle Grove then followed up with a win a 42-34 win over North Butler-Clarksville. Eagle Grove picked up falls from Mack Morgan, Kaden Pritchard, Connor Christopher and Isaac Olson at 106 pounds, 120 pounds, 126 pounds and 220 pounds. The Eagles also picked up forfeit wins at 145 pounds, 152 pounds and 160 pounds.

The final dual of the night showcased Eagle Grove taking down Saint Ansgar by a final off 44-33. Eagle Grove picked up falls from Mack Morgan, Kaden Pritchard, Connor Christopher, Jack Mendoza and Jayden Gump at 106 pounds, 120 pounds, 126 pounds, 195 pounds and 285 pounds.

Eagle Grove wrestling returns to action after break, as they will compete at the Gary Christensen Invitational at Winterset on January 8th.
