Iowa basketball routs Slippery Rock in exhibition, 99-47

Iowa basketball began the post-Luka Garza/Joe Wieskamp era on Friday night as they hosted Slippery Rock at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The Rock were playing their first game action since the 2019-20 season, and fell to the new-look Hawkeyes 99-47.

The Hawkeyes were led in scoring by redshirt sophomore Patrick McCaffery, who poured in a game-high 18 points, along with 8 rebounds. Preseason All-Big Ten selection Keegan Murray contributed 17 points, while Waukee-native Payton Sandfort added 12 points off the bench, including a pair of three-pointers. Austin Ash also scored in double-digits for the Hawkeyes.

Slippery Rock only saw one player break double digits in scoring, as guard Amante Britt tallied 10 points on 3-of-15 shooting. The Hawkeyes held Slippery Rock to a 21.5% field goal percentage on Friday night, while Iowa shot over 52% from the field as a team.

The Hawkeyes begin the regular season on Tuesday night as they host the Longwood Lancers at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, tipoff is scheduled for 9 PM.
