#12 Iowa State women rout Wisconsin-River Falls, 99-41

The Iowa State Cyclones women’s basketball team opened its season on Thursday, as they routed Division III foe Wisconsin-River Falls, 99-41. The Falcons were coming off of a 2-7 season in a shortened 2020-21 season due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Noticeably absent from the top scorers was Preseason 1st-Team All-Big 12 selection Ashley Joens, who landed awkwardly in the first half and did not return. In her absence, sophomore point guard Emily Ryan paved the way with 22 points, while Lexi Donarski and Nyamer Diew contributed 17 points as well. Desae Fritz and Izzi Zingaro also scored in double figures for the Cyclones.

As for Wisconsin-River Falls, they were lead in scoring by Averie Varsho, who tallied 10 points on the night. Cole Justice and Macy Nilsen were 2nd on the team in scoring with 6 points a piece.

Next action for Iowa State will be on November 9th, when they host Nebraska-Omaha at Hilton Coliseum, tipoff is scheduled for 11 AM.
