Only one athlete in the KQ area competed at last weekend’s State Cross Country Championships, and that athlete was Eagle Grove junior Drake Weland. Weland qualified for the State Meet in 2020 as well, placing 85th in a time of 18:41, as Eagle Grove’s lone representative.
Weland, again, competed in the Class 2A State Meet on Saturday in Fort Dodge. The Eagles junior would place 62nd, in a time of 17:56. Weland’s 1-mile split was 5:30, while his 2-mile split was 11:29.
The Eagle Grove junior will look to lead the Eagles cross country squad to a team berth in 2022 as a senior.
