Cowboys defeat Eagles in Wright County rivalry, 41-6

Friday’s season opener for Clarion-Goldfield-Dows and Eagle Grove pitted the two intra-county rivals against each other. Clarion-Goldfield-Dows won last years meeting by a score 76-0, and Eagle Grove was looking to extract some revenge. While the Eagles weren’t able to extract said revenge, they battled hard and were competitive with Cowboys, as the 1st quarter ended with no score between the two teams.

The second quarter, and the rest of the game, belonged to the Cowboys, as Neven Foss broke the game open with a 61-yard touchdown run to put the score at 7-0. CGD scored two more touchdowns and added a Brallon Gomez field goal to set the score at 24-0 at the end of the first half.

Third quarter action was quiet, outside of a Cowboys touchdown, which had the score 30-0 as Wright County battle entered the 4th quarter. Another Brallon Gomez field goal set the score at 33-0. The night was capped off by the man who got it started, as Neven Foss returned a kickoff 78 yards for a touchdown, mere moments after Tate Richardson scored Eagle Grove’s first touchdown of the night.

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows begins their season at 1-0 and will host Belmond-Klemme this Friday. Eagle Grove will begin their season 0-1 and will travel west to take on Maple Valley/Anton-Otho/Charter Oak-Ute this Friday.
