CGD, Webster City girls compete in North Central Conference track meet

The Webster City Lynx and Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowgirls track teams made the trip north on I-35 on Thursday night, to compete in the North Central Conference girls track meet at Clear Lake High School. The Lynx and Cowgirls were joined by NCC schools Algona, St. Edmond, Iowa Falls-Alden, Clear Lake, Humboldt and Hampton-Dumont-CAL.

In the field events, CGD’s Makayla Beisel was the lone area champion, winning the high jump by clearing 5′ 2″. CGD’s Kennedy Trca would place 2nd in the long jump with a mark of 15′ 6.75″, as Webster City doubled up in points with Bonnie Norhenberg placing 5th with a mark of 14′ 9.75″ and Adeline Tesdahl placing 6th with a mark of 14′ 9″. In the shot put, the Lynx’s Aydsen Poppen placed 6th with a throw of 32′ 2″, while teammate Delaney Kopriva placed 8th with a throw of 31′ 8″. Webster City’s Hannah Brandt would place 4th in the discus with a throw of 108′ 8″, as CGD’s Ellie Mews placed 8th.

Individual events saw Clarion-Goldfield-Dows take home two individual titles, as Kennedy Trca was the champion in the 100 meter high hurdles in a time of 16.92, as teammate Mikayla Beisel would place second in 16.95. Beisel would earn her conference title in the 400 hurdles in a time of 1:12.78. The Cowgirls would get a 3rd place finish in the 100 meter dash from Matea Conlon, in a time of 13.52, while Webster City’s Chloe Savitski placed 4th in 13.61. The Lynx would get a 5th place finish from McKenzie Mishler in the 100 hurdles and a 6-7 finish in the 400 from Emma Peck and Dasha Sankey. Sankey also placed 8th in the 200 meter dash. CGD’s Harley Charlson would place 6th in the 800 meter run.

In the relays, Webster City would bring home a conference title in the shuttle hurdle relay in a time 1:14.37, CGD would see it’s highest finish in the 4×200, placing 2nd in a time of 1:54.40. Webster City would place 3rd in the 4×100 and the 4×400 in times of 54.43 and 4:32.53, as CGD would place 4th in the 4×100 in 54.68. Webster City would also place 3rd in the sprint medley in 1:59.87, and 6th in the distance medley.

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows would place 6th in the meet with 70 points, as Webster City placed 7th with 68 points. Clear Lake was the conference champions, scoring 165 points.
