Area Cross Country teams compete in District meets last Thursday

KQ area cross country teams competed in their respective state qualifying meets this past Thursday night, as athletes and teams attempted to qualify themselves for the state meet in Fort Dodge this upcoming weekend. In all, 1 area athlete qualified for the state meet, but many season-bests were set on Thursday.

Webster City’s boys finished 11th in their Class 3A Qualifying Meet, with the top placer in senior Jose Ramirez, who finished 27th in a time of 17:56. Fellow senior Cole Reiling placed 42nd in a time of 18:47. The Lynx girls placed 12th at the meet, with their top placer in junior Emma Peck, who placed 50th in a time of 22:59.

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows boys team finished 14th in their Class 2A Qualifying Meet at Dike-New Hartford. The Cowboys top placer was junior Jacob Ingebritson, who placed 59th in a time of 19:11. The CGD girls team placed 12th in the meet, with their top runner in freshman Madison Ingebritson, who placed 73rd in a time of 25:28.

Eagle Grove’s boys team placed 10th at their Class 2A Qualifying Meet, also at Dike-New Hartford. Their top finisher was junior Drake Weland, who placed 13th in a time of 17:26, making him the only area athlete to qualify for the state meet. The Eagle Grove girls did not compete as a complete team, as their top finisher was junior Maddie Axtell. Axtell placed 49th in a time of 23:28.

South Hamilton’s boys team finished 7th at their Class 1A Qualifying Meet at Panorama. Junior Landon Grove was the top finisher for the Hawks, as he placed 23rd in a time of 19:14. Fellow junior Eli Potter placed 26th in a time of 19:42. South Hamilton’s girls team placed 3rd at the meet, with their top placer in senior Madison Beaune, who placed 18th in a time of 22:28. Annika Kienzle and Val Wagner placed 21st and 22nd for the Hawks girls as well.
