Webster City volleyball takes home St. Edmonds tournament title

The Webster City Lynx volleyball team continued their torrent start to the season by dominating the competition at St. Edmonds volleyball tournament on Saturday in Fort Dodge. The Lynx started off the day by defeating the tournament hosts in the Gaels 2-0 behind 7 kills from Reese Casey and 5 kills from Sierra Rattenborg.

Webster City continued to sweep opponent after opponent, with 2-0 victories over Pocahontas Area, Southeast Valley, and traditional small school power, Algona Bishop Garrigan. Sierra Rattenborg led the way through the 3 matches with an astonishing 22 kills in 3, two-set games.

That set Jess Howard’s squad up in the championship match, as they faced off with the Falcons of Aplington-Parkersburg. The Falcons took set one 21-17, the first set the Lynx had lost all day. But, behind the play of state kills-leader Sierra Rattenborg and Joslin Gourley, the Lynx took set two 21-19, and took home the winner-take-all set three, 15-13.

Rattenborg finished the tournament with 39 kills and Joslin Gourley dished out 67 assists on the day. The 7-1 Lynx will take on defending conference champions, Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, on Thursday night in Clarion. 95.7 KQWC will have live coverage of the game with the broadcast starting at 6:55 PM.
