One of the four Republican candidates running for the Iowa House District 55 seat has ended his race. Bryson Zabel of Hampton announced on Tuesday he will not seek election due to family priorities and the demands of a competitive race. On a social media post, Zabel said the “full intensity of campaigning” is not the right fit at this stage of his life. He and his wife have two young children, and he emphasized that being present as a husband and father must come first. The June 2nd Republican primary will now feature the names of Kurtis Bower of Roland, Beau Klaver of Kamrar and Brian Young of Stratford on the ballot. Current House District 55 representative Shannon Latham is not seeking re-election this year. She has accepted the executive director position with the Iowa FFA Foundation.
