Busy overnight for area fire fighters in Hamilton and Story Counties.

Three area fire departments responded to a house fire in Jewell early Tuesday morning. The call came to the Jewell Fire Department. When they arrived, the house was totally engulfed in flames. There was a report of one of the home’s occupants escaped by jumping out of a second story window. The individual was to Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames for treatment. The Ellsworth and Story City Fire Departments all responded assisting the fire fighters of Jewell this morning. It took four hours to put the flames out to the home. Officials said the cause of the fire remains under investigation. The home and a parked car outside were declared a total loss.
