State candidates announced for the June 2nd Primary election.

Friday, March 13th was the final day to file nomination papers for the June 2nd Primary Election for all state candidates. One of the interesting races this June appears to be the race for four Republican candidates who are vying for the House District 55 seat. The seat covers both Franklin and Hamilton Counties, the southeastern part of Wright County and the northwestern part of Story County. The four Republicans competing are Kurtis Bower of Roland, Beau Klaver of Kamrar, Brian Young of Stratford and Bryson Zabel of Hampton. The winner will succeed retiring Iowa House member Shannon Latham of Sheffield. The Republican winner will go on to face Democratic challenger Cynthia Oppedal Paschen of Jewell in the November election.

Iowa State Senator in District 28 Dennis Guth of Klemme is not up for election this year.

The U.S. House Fourth District  race of which Hamilton County is a part of will feature Republican Chris McGowan of Sioux City facing three Democratic candidates. They are Dave Dawson of Lawton, Stephanie Stiener of Sutherland and Ashley WolfTornabane of Storm Lake. The winner will succeed Randy Feenstra of Hull, who is one of three Republican candidates vying for Governor.

As for the race for Governor, the Republican candidates are Randy Feenstra, Brad Sherman of Williamsburg and Adam Steen from Runnells. The Republican winner will face Democrat Rob Sand of Des Moines. Current Governor Kim Reynolds will not seek re-election this year.

In the race of U.S Senate, the Republican candidates are Jim Carlin of Sioux City and Ashley Hinson of Marion. The two Democratic contestants are Josh Turek of Council Bluffs and Zach Wahls of Coralville. The winners in the June Primary will face each other in the November election succeeding current Republican Joni Ernst who is not seeking re-election this year.

Hamilton County candidates seeking office in the June primary have until this Friday, March 20th to get their nominations in for office. Hamilton County Attorney Pat Chambers will not seek re-election this year. Bridget Chambers plans to seek office this year. The other candidates whose terms expire this year are Second District Supervisor Rick Young, Treasurer Matt Matteson and Recorder Kim Anderson
