Overview of Webster City High School renovation presented to the Webster City High School board this week.

For over 65 years, the Webster City High School has been a hub of academics for grades 9 through 12 on Lynx Avenue. The building has seen renovations and remodeling throughout the years. The most notable has been at Prem Sahai Auditorium and the multi-purpose gym for indoor athletics. During their meeting last Monday night, the Webster City Community School Board met with Tyler Riley of the FEH Design firm out of Des Moines. He presented a high-level overview of addition high school options developed for the district. The board is looking at the future direction of the high school with more discussion to continue at another meeting. No action was taken by the board after Riley’s presentation.

Webster City superintendent Matt Berninghaus discussed the benefits of moving from half-day transitional Kindergarten to a full day transitional Kindergarten program. The board went on to approve the transitional program starting next school year. There was a conversation at Monday’s meeting regarding the idea of aligning elementary schools by grade level. An analysis of survey results will be presented at the April board meeting.

In personnel matters on Monday night, the board accepted the resignation from Lord Phiwthong from the school food service staff. The following resignations will take effect at the end of the 2025-26 school year. They include teachers Kim Schimp and Sandra Alne and from teachers and coaches Rafferty Naughton and Samantha Naughton. The following hirings were all approved Keith Thomason as a custodian, paraeducators Adalie Peck and Jersey Culver, and guidance secretary Diane Mulligan. Drew Jones was hired as a high school English teacher for the 2026-27 season.

Two public hearings were set for April 13th at 5:45 and at 6:00 p.m. for the Webster City 2027 Fiscal Year annual budget. Fund raising requests from the high school band and choirs and from the middle school were all approved by the board. The next Webster City Community School Board meeting will be held Monday,April 13th at the school office on Des Moines and Division Streets.
