Roland-Story softball shuts out South Hamilton, 8-0

The Roland-Story Norsemen and South Hamilton Hawks softball teams returned to action on Thursday night, as the two long-time rivals met at the Hennessy Diamonds in Roland in Heart of Iowa Conference action. Roland-Story entered at 3-2, while South Hamilton entered at 0-5.

Roland-Story would fly out of the gates on Thursday with a 5-run 1st inning, with RBI singles from Brookelyn Jondle, Keely Oberender, Evelyn Carlson and an RBI groundout from Eva Corcoran as the Norsemen led 5-0 after 1. Roland-Story would tack on 2 runs in the 4th on an RBI ground out by Keely Oberender and an RBI single from Kate Berggren to make it 7-0, as Peyton Jeter would end things in the 5th on an RBI single to enforce the 8-run rule as Roland-Story claimed an 8-0 victory.

Keely Oberender and Evelyn Carlson would have the top days at the plate, as both went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI on the day. Freshman Kennedy Hodnefield picked up the win in the circle, allowing 0 runs on 2 hits and striking out 5. Lillie Ammerman and Sydney Flaugh recorded the only hits for South Hamilton, as Emma Lammers was charged with the loss, allowing 8 runs (5 earned) on 10 hits and struck out 6 in 4.2 innings.

Roland-Story softball returns to action on Friday, when they host (3A) #4 PCM in Heart of Iowa Conference action at the Hennessy Diamonds with action beginning at 7:30 PM.
