The Eagle Grove Eagles baseball team returned to action on Thursday night, as they hosted the Algona Bulldogs in non-conference action at Greenwood Park in Eagle Grove. Eagle Grove entered at 1-5, while Algona entered at 9-1 and ranked #5 in Class 3A.
Algona would get off to a good start with 2 runs in the 1st and a run in the top of the 2nd to lead 3-0. Eagle Grove answered in the bottom of the 2nd off a Trenton Robinson RBI single, before adding 2 runs in the bottom of the 3rd off a Jaxon Morris RBI ground out and a Jesus Baez RBI single to tie the game at 3-3. Algona would then blow things open in the 4th with 8 runs behind 3 RBI doubles, a single and a 2-run homer to take an 11-3 lead. Eagle Grove would score a run in the 4th on a dropped 3rd strike, as well as Jaxon Morris driving in a run in the 5th on an RBI groundout, but the potent Algona offense would be too much in a 17-5 win for the Bulldogs.
Jaxon Morris would drive in 2 runs on Thursday without recording a hit, while Trenton Robinson went 2-for-3 with an RBI, Jesus Baez went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Syrus Willard went 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored. Gavin Pedersen was charged with the loss, allowing 11 runs on 10 hits and striking 5 in 4 innings.
Eagle Grove baseball returns to action on Monday, when they travel to Garner-Hayfield-Ventura to take on the Cardinals in Top of Iowa West action, with first pitch at 7:30 PM.
