Van Diest Medical Center Board welcomes Maxon...search on for new C.E.O.

Myra Maxon was sworn in Tuesday night as a new member of the Van Diest Medical Center Board of Trustees. Maxon was elected in November to take over the seat from George Heller whose term expired at the end of last month. Maxon's term will be for the next six years. Carroll Ose also was sworn in to another six year term.

Van Diest Medical Center board members met with Jim Fitz Patrick of the Mercy Health Network regarding the search for a new Chief Executive Officer. Fitz Patrick said it appears that it will be at least mid February when the names of the potential candidates will be reviewed and the setting of interviews. Bob Mason is the interim administrator for the local hospital since Palmer Schneider stepped down this past November.

The board commended the efforts of the hospital staff during the blizzard conditions of December 20th. A multi vehicle accident occured north of Williams on Interstate 35 that injured 25 people and fatally injured two people. Van Diest Medical Center was one of the receiving hospital for the injured patients. Hospital staff employees met with Iowa State Patrol officials recently for a debriefing of the accident of three weeks ago.

Dr. Subhash Sahai was named the chief of medical staff at Van Diest Medical Center for this year. Dr. Joe Latella as vice-chief . Dr. Mark Andrew will be the medical staff secretary-treasurer for 2013.
