Van Diest Medical Center board looks at affiliation agreement options.
Posted: Oct 12 2012 by ppowers

With an end of the month deadline fast approaching for their affiliation agreement with Mercy Health Network of Des Moines, the Van Diest Medical Center board Thursday night looked at options for affiliation arrangements. Administrator Palmer Schneider and the board have spent the past few months looking at proposals from hospital networks across the state. In September, the board heard a presentation from officials of the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics from Iowa City on a possible affiliation agreement. The board also heard input from hospital department staff on what would be in the best interest of Van Diest Medical Center. Since 1986, Van Diest Medical Center has had an affiliation agreement in place with the Mercy Medical Center Health Network. The network is made up of 16 hospitals in central Iowa. Other concerns addressed at last night's special board meeting included the continuing rise costs of health care, the legal aspects and how the election next month could play a role in the health care of Americans. After an hour of discussion, the Van Diest Medical Center board decided to contact officials with Iowa Health Systems of Des Moines to have one of their network liaison meet with the hospital department heads on what Iowa Health Systems can offer for services. Iowa Health Systems has 15 hospitals in their network with locations in Des Moines, Fort Dodge, Sioux City, Dubuque, the Quad Cities,Muscatine,Waterloo and Anamosa. This Tuesday evening the Van Diest Medical Center board members will discuss the renewal agreement with the Mercy Health Network. The meeting begins at 7;30 in the hospital board room.
