At their meeting held Monday evening,the Stanhope City Council looked at the request from JK Energy Consulting of Lincoln,Nebraska in regards to the sale of wholesale electricity to Stanhope effective January 1,2014. A total of 12 requests were sent out. JK Energy Consulting recommended that the City of Stanhope select Heartland Consumers Power District of Madison, South Dakota to provide electrical energy for a ten year period. Heartland would supply technical assistance and financial assistance with the possible construction of a new power substation and system conversion from the current 7200 Wye under grounded system to a 12500-7200 Wye grounded system. The report rendered from JK Energy Consulting will be reviewed and further discussions with Heartland will need to take place before the city of Stanhope will be in a position to sign a contract,however at the next regular council meeting on March 11, Stanhope City Clerk Ron McKenzie will seek authority to begin negotiations with Heartland on the issues of wholesale power cost and financing proposals.
The Stanhope council set the date of Monday,March 11 at 6:30 for a public hearing on the 2013-14 operating budget.
In another matter, the council approved the opening an account within the existing accounting system to be title as the Community Center Building Account. City Clerk Ron McKenzie indicated that there is already a fund entitled Community Center which could be changed to Community Center Building Account for expenditures and a corresponding revenue account would also need to be created.
