The Hamilton County Board of Supervisors Tuesday morning approved the low bid and contract with Graves Construction of Spencer for the work on renovating the bridge on 360th Street over the Skunk River two miles north of Randall in Ellsworth Township. Hamilton County Engineer Dan Waid said the firm will replace a 102 foot by 17 foot riveted pony truss bridge with 120 foot by 30 foot concrete slab. The bridge was constructed in 1921. A total of eight bids for the project. The bid from Graves Construction came in at $439,122. The engineer's estimate was at $557,000. Work on replacing the bridge will begin later this year.
In other matters,the Hamilton County Supervisors approved a contract with Pitney Bowes for a postage meter with the Department of Human Services. The board also set the date of Tuesday,January 29th at 1:30 p.m. for a public hearing on the change order for Drainage District 8.
Hamilton County Public Health Director Shelby Kroona is urging all residents who have not already done so to get their flu shot. With the move to the new Public Health building January 17th and 18th,the staff will probably not have the time for vaccinations. Kroona said this year's flu season has reached a high intensity with 17 deaths nationwide as of this week. If you need a flu vaccination please call Hamilton County Public Health at 832-9565.
