The South Hamilton school board on Monday welcomed five new staff members to the district at their monthly board meeting. They include Elementary Special Education instructor Sarah Terrones, Special Education Associate Leah Consier, Beth Heller for 7 through 12 grade Science, Kris Flaugh for 7 to 9 grade Special Education and Kelsi Retallick for 7 through 12th grade Science. Molly Houdeshell was appointed as the student school board member for the 2013-14 school year.
The South Hamilton board approved the Saturday matinee for the Hamilton Holidays production this November with ticket prices to remain at $5.00. The board also approved the Junior High Student Council field trip set for this spring. A protective equipment policy will be worked on and be brought back to the board in October by both Superintendent Tim Johnson and Athletic Director Todd Coy.
The purchase of a wrestling hoist was approved with the understanding South High Pride will purchase a new competition wrestling mat and a high jump pit. The board also approved the purchase of 10 hand held radios as called for in the school district emergency plan. The members of the South Hamilton school board asked Superintendent Johnson to solicit bids from Thompson Construction, Seamless Pros,Weiland Lawn Care and to resume conversations with Building and Grounds Supervisor Curt Stoecker.
Lane change requests were approved for Meridith Spykerman, Missy Coy, Cindy Riedemann, Tami Marienau and Leif Segen.
The board approved the retirement request of longtime staff member Jim Klein at the end of the current school year. The resignation of Amanda Luhman as assistant high school girls basketball coach. The board approved the hiring of Kara Sloan as 7th Grade Girls Basketball coach, Bret Johnson as assistant high school wrestling coach, Angie Robinson as Drama Coach for Hamilton Holidays, Nathan Hill as volunteer coach for the High School Boys Basketball team and High School Volleyball Volunteer coach Laura Read.
