Posted: Dec 04 2012 by ppowers

Officials with POET Bio-refining in Jewell made a substantial donation to the South Hamilton Bands to kick off the "Strike Up The Band..400 at 150' Fundraising Campaign. The South Hamilton Band Department launched the campaign beginning this month. The goal is to seek out 400 current students, former students, patrons or fans of the South Hamilton Band who are willing to donate $150 in order to buy school owned instruments to replace old ones. The estimated cost to update the band instrument inventory is $120,000. POET generously stepped up to the plate first and got things started with their donation. As an additional incentive the South Hamilton School Board has agreed to match dollar for dollar, the total amount of the contributions generated by this campaign. The $5,000 gift from POET, coupled with the matching funds, have set things in a positive direction with $10,000 in total funds toward the goal. The "Strike Up The Band"  fundraiser is similar to the "Hit the Weights Campaign" from 2011 in which community members and alumni donated $100 each in order to purchase new weight room equipment. Through the contributions of Hawks past and present, the school is now able to boast one of the finest weight facilities for a Class 1A school in the state. If you would like to make a contribution to the "Strike Up The Band" fundraiser, please contact the South Hamilton School office in Jewell.
