Icy street conditions played a contributing factor to two motor vehicle accidents in Webster City on Thursday afternoon.

Webster City Police investigated a car pickup accident at First and Grove Streets at about 12:20 p.m. Reportedly a westbound 1993 Chevrolet C-15 pickup truck driven by James Ubben of Webster City was unable to stop in time due to the icy conditions of the intersection. The Ubben pickup struck the driver's side rear bumper of a 2000 Buick LeSabre driven by Richard Laird also of Webster City. The Laird car was making a turn on to Grove Street at the time. There were no injuries reported. Investigating Sgt. Shiloh Mork estimated the damage to the  Laird car at $2500 and an estimated $500 in damages to the Ubben pickup.

The second accident of Thursday afternoon happened just after 2:00 p.m. at West Second Street and West Avenue when a northbound 2003 Chevrolet Trail Blazer SUV driven by Rebecca Sanchez of Webster City was attempting to stop at the stop sign. Due to the icy street conditions, the Sanchez SUV could not stop as it slid through the stop sign colliding with an eastbound 2010 Freightliner semi operated by Dustin Loomis of Riverdale,Michigan. Both drivers escaped injury. Damage to the Sanches SUV was estimated at $5000 with an estimated $10,000 in damage to the Loomis semi. Investigating officer Ryan Pittman charged Rebecca Sanchez with Failure to Have a Valid Driver's License and Failure to Prove Security Against Liability.
