Hamilton County Fair is set to open tonight!

 The 96th annual Hamilton County Fair is set to begin tonight in Webster City. This year's theme is "Hammer Down" as a tribute to 75 years of auto racing at the Hamilton County Speedway. The fair will officially kick off with a parade through downtown Webster City at 6:00 p.m. The parade will go north from Elm and Prospect Streets to Second Street. From there the parade will head south on Superior then east on Bank Street to the Fairgrounds.The commercial booths will open at 6:00 p.m. and Smith Amusements will open with their carnival at 6:30 p.m. Other activities at the fairgrounds today will include the Dog Obedience show set for 8:00 this morning. Clover Kids Pet Show at the Crestview Senior Living Tent at 10:30. There will be a pet show at 1:00 and at 2:00 this afternoon again at the Crestview Senior Living tent. A model horse show will be held at 2:00 p.m at the Richardson Pavilion on the fairgrounds.

The grandstand events include the Hamilton County Fair Queen Coronation set for Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. The contestants are Angela DeLaRiva, Brittany Nicholson and Shea Van Langen all of Ellsworth, Erin Anderson, Josi Dinsdale, Bridget Moriarity,and Jan Ryherd all of Webster City and Molly Greenfield of Williams. The winner will represent Hamilton County at the Iowa State Fair Queen  competition set for next month in Des Moines. Kylee King will surrender her crown tomorrow evening to her successor.The Dance Connection will provide the entertainment. There will be two nights of racing at the Hamilton County Speedway on Thursday and on Saturday evenings with hot laps at 6:30 on Thursday and at 6:00 on Saturday with the racing to follow. On Friday night at 7:00 there will be a thrill show featuring trailer races and the Hound and the Hare Race followed by fireworks. On Sunday evening, there will be the demolition derby beginning at 5:00 p.m.

This year's fair will feature numerous 4-H and FFA judging events. Hypnotist Brian Imbus will perform Thursday, Friday and Saturday afternoons at 1, 3 and 5 p.m. on the Ed Prince stage. A total of 16 acts will participate in the annual State Fair Talent Search Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. Power Up Youth will have Trivia contests Wednesday through Saturday afternoons at 4:00 p.m.  Pedal Pull competition will be held Wednesday through Saturday afternoons at 3:30 sponsored by Hamilton County Farm Bureau with the championship round set for 4:00 Sunday afternoon south of the Co-op Building.
