Four people charged with copper theft from area farms.

 The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office has arrested and charged four men following an investigation relating to the theft of copper from area farms.

 

Humboldt County Sheriff Dean Kruger says that a search warrant was executed by the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office on April 27th at the residence of 30-year-old Tyler Ross Tinken in Clarion. Two days later, a second search warrant was executed at the residence of 36-year-old Nelson Lee Troyer in Bode.

 

Kruger says that that the copper was taken from field irrigation pivots and vacant farms.

 

As a result of the lengthy investigation, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office charged Tinken with multiple counts of theft, criminal mischief and one count of ongoing criminal conduct. His bond was set at $113,000. Charges have also been filed against Tinken in Pocahontas County for theft and criminal mischief. His bond in Pocahontas County was set at $26,000.

 

Troyer was charged with ongoing criminal conduct in Humboldt County and theft and criminal mischief in Pocahontas County. His bond in Humboldt County was set at $50,000 and $11,000 in Pocahontas County.

 

Ricky Lee Habben of Palmer was charged with multiple counts of theft, criminal mischief and one count of ongoing criminal conduct. The 40-year-old also faces charges relating to theft and criminal mischief in Pocahontas County. His Humboldt County bond was set at $156,000 and $26,300 in Pocahontas County.

 

Daniel L Reames of Hardy was charged in Humboldt County on multiple counts of theft, criminal mischief, burglary and one count of ongoing criminal conduct. The 48-year-old faces additional charges for theft and criminal mischief in Pocahontas County. His bond was set at $113,000 in Humboldt County and $27,300 in Pocahontas County. He is currently in the custody of the United States Marshal’s Services due to separate federal charges for felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of a stolen firearm and felon in possession of ammunition.

 

Tinken, Troyer and Habben have additionally been charged with two counts of first-degree theft in Buena Vista County. Those charges stem from the theft of copper from two windmills west of Storm Lake. The three men all turned themselves in to the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday.

 

The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office is also investigating these men in reference to copper thefts in their county.

 

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Clarion Police Department, Wright County Sheriff’s Office, Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Office, Webster County Sheriff’s Office, Monona County Sheriff’s Office, Humboldt County Attorney’s Office, and Iowa Department of Transportation’s Motor Vehicle Enforcement.
